The Time Master: Postmortem
Hello,
I've never done a postmortem for any game that I submitted for a game jam before, so this should be fun haha.
I want to start off by stating that I'm not a proficient programmer/artist. I had some struggles with both of those skills, but for the past couple of months (or projects in this case) I wanted to take the time and learn them.
So what went right?
I had a clear idea on what I wanted the game to be. I always wanted to do a 2D platformer, that involved challenging obstacles, and an interesting mechanic that didn't just include jumping. I never made a game where the player had the ability to rewind time, and thought it would be interesting to explore that.
What went wrong?
For a one man project, I had a lot on my plate. Not to say that I bit more than I could chew, but some issues (moving platforms for instance) was time consuming for me. I probably spent most of my time debugging code than actually writing it, but then again I'm pretty sure that's what programmers do.
I'm still new to making soundtracks. So with programs like Bosca Ceoil, I was really picky with how I wanted the theme song for the game to sound like. Hell, I think making the soundtrack took longer than making the entire game xD
And some stuff from my personal life got in the way, from making this game.
